Lake GazeboAn optical device
After Apricots (TR/DE/US) / Bach Mühle Fuchs (CH)

Don’t be afraid to go all the way into the center of this intriguing metal prism. It’s inviting you to see the landscape in front of you differently. Lake, sky, and mountains are captured in a uniquely fragmented view. You should explore every facet of this fabulous optical device at the water’s edge in the Jardins de l’Impérial Palace.

Vista points, landscape parks, serene places devoted to rest and contemplation have always given the gazebo pride of place. Subtly positioned, it directs your gaze. As when looking through a viewfinder, you see the landscape more clearly. Here, the metal has openings so the shadows can play across it. And the prism’s shape is specific to the site: based on calculations of the sun’s orbit, it makes the immobile structure seem alive. Enter this 21st-century gazebo and take the time to let it guide your gaze. You’ll gain a better understanding of the landscape and might even see farther.
