La Haie
d’honneur
Bob Verschueren (BE)

Bob Verschueren proposes an installation made up of 10 trees assembled in pairs, planted in the ground, roots in the air. Together they form a hedge spanning an avenue in the Gardens of Europe. The artist transforms the dead trees of the forests of Annecy into a work of art paying homage to the public who are invited to walk through the installation.
Bob Verschueren’s installations are reflections on the unwavering link between life and death, the sometimes contradictory link between man and the rest of nature; they question human relationships more broadly. Respectfully removed from the forest and planted “upside down”, branches on the ground and roots in the sky, these trees create a guard of honor, a passage enhancing the walk, far from the paths of overconsumption and outside of time. Because walking is, above all, honoring nature…

After practicing painting, Bob Verschueren began his “wind paintings” in 1978, natural pigments spread in the wind across the landscape. From this decisive turning point came his interest in nature and plants in particular. Since then, he has carried out more than 350 installations in Europe and elsewhere. He also investigates other fields such as sound, engraving, photography, etc. A wasteland, a forest, an exhibition space… are so many workshops for him. Bob Verschueren is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium in the Arts class.
